Applesoft BASIC is the successor to Integer BASIC and can be found in
ROM chips of most Apple IIs (II+ to IIgs).
Strictly speaking, Applesoft is not an OS. DOS 3.3 or ProDOS 8 would
be examples of OSs that would work in conjunction with Applesoft.
When Applesoft was developed disk drives did not exist, so the language
only supported cassette-tape based storage. Some programming techniques
were used to facilitate the use of disk drives.
