Connecting //GS to PC problem

I am trying to connect a PC and a //GS via a null modem cable and not
having much luck...I have the 25to25 null cable going from the PC connected
to a normal 25to-minidin GS modem cable, but no matter what I set the baud
rates at I cannot get any life on the GS, but if I do a PR#2 I can get
some garbage chars to show on the pc side. I have the comm program on the
PC set to 8n1 and am not stripping the high bit....anyone have any ideas?
