re:Why Apple //?

Alright, my turn to add something to this delightful thread...

Why the Apple //? Why not. I have a //e which I've put some
investment in (not as much as some people here but enough to give me
what I want -- 10 meg HD, 2400 internal modem, No-Slot Clock, four 5.25"
drives, 1.5 meg RAM) and two ][e's for parts and use when my better
system is busy. My reasons for sticking with the old stuff:

For what I do with my (or, theoretically, any) computer, what I have
suits my purposes. I use a computer for telecommunication, word
processing, and the occasional game of Othello. A lot of speed is not
required, a lot of RAM not neccesary, and a lot of expense not wanted.
An Apple //e does what I want, usually without taking up much disk space
at that ("remember when 64k RAM encouraged efficient programming?" as
the tagline says), and relatively cheaply at that.

A lot of people do not understand the concept of comfort with what
you actually need, my own father (a serious Macintosh user) included. I
just laugh it off when they say "why don't you get a real computer"
because I *have* one, and politely tell them that I'm not using what
I have to full capacity so why would I need more than what I have? They
can spend $89 on Windows to get a better Solitare game in VGA on a
system that they flip out CPU chips for every 3 years; what I've got
has endured almost unchanged for a decade and that means something.
They can trade in their Mac every time Apple Inc. has a whim; I'm
sticking to the machine from when Apple had a singular purpose &
direction (and wished they still gave a darn but live okay without 'em).

    II infinitum!
