Welcome to the Big Apple Users Group in New York, a computer club for
Apple II and MacIntosh users. We are affiliated with the New York Amateur
Computer Club and the Dorsai Embassy, an Internet service provider. We
offer discounts on Mac products to BAUG members.
Our Internet SIG will meet at Dorsai at 7 pm on Monday, September 11,
where Shawn King will conduct an on-line session for both Mac and Apple II
users. Dorsai itself also conducts free Internet classes on Tuesday
evenings. Directions to Dorsai (Appendix II) and the schedule of Dorsai
classes (Appendix I) follow this announcement.
At our general meeting at Greenwich House, 27 Barrow St., at 6:45 pm on
Monday, September 18, Jim O'Reilly will report to the club on the goings
on at Kansas Fest, where the luminaries of the Apple II world got together
to share ideas and problems, and Polly Bookhout and Mabel Hedger will
inform us of the latest Mac developments from the MacWorld Expo. There
will also be a Question and Answer session. Greenwich House is located
one block south of Sheridan Square, just west of 7th Avenue, in Greenwich
Village.
Polly Bookhout will demonstrate HyperStudio stack for Animasia, at the
Apple II SIG at her place, 345 West 58th Street, Apt 5L, next door to the
Coliseum, at 6:30 pm on Monday, September 25.

APPENDIX I: SCHEDULE OF FREE DORSAI INTERNET CLASSES
------------------------------------------------------------
Classes will be held from 7:15 to 9:15 pm on the specified Tuesday
evenings at the Dorsai Embassy (see Appendix II for directions).
Instructors will vary from week to week in the interest of giving
different perspectives for those who may choose to take a class more than
once.
Class first cycle Second cycle Third cycle
------- ------------ -------------- ------------
first Sept 5 Oct 3 Oct 31
second Sept 12 Oct 10 Nov 7
third Sept 19 Oct 17 Nov 14
fourth Sept 26 Oct 24 Nov 21
The first class is on pine, pico and tin with a mention of man and lynx.
The second class is on gopher, archie and veronica.
The third class is on ftp, ncftp and telnet.
The fourth class is on using the www through a tia graphical interface.
Emphasis is increasingly being placed upon getting a intermittent slip/ppp
account.
Tia and slip/ppp accounts are not available to Apple II users as their
graphic capabilities, even of the Apple IIgs, cannot handle such graphics.
We should access www thru lynx.
Users wishing to upgrade their platinum accounts to an intermittent
slip/ppp account need to donate a flat $75 dollars for the remainder of
their year's use. When users donate $200 for a year, the intermittent
slip/ppp account may be established for them.

APPENDIX II: DIRECTIONS TO DORSAI
----------------------------------------
To reach The Dorsai Embassy by car:
Take the LIE, 59th Street Bridge or Grand Central to the Queens side of
the tunnel or bridge respectively.
LIE. From the last exit going West towards Manhattan, follow the
access road way to just after the entrance back onto the LIE East ( and
West through a loop ) entrance. Make a right heading North parallel to
the East River on Vernon Blvd. Go to 40th Avenue and turn right. Go 3
blocks to 11th Street and turn left. You cannot miss the 3 story brick
building with a huge commercial vertical sign hanging from the side of the
building:

This is where we are located.
59th Street Bridge ( Easiest way ) - Take the upper roadway and
bear right on the exit ramp going to 21st Street. Turn right on 21st
Street. Go to 40th Avenue and make a left going West towards Manhattan.
Go 3 blocks and turn right onto 11th Street. From this point, the
directions are the same as for the LIE.
Grand Central - Take the Hoyt Avenue exit. Go West to 21st street
(towards Manhattan ). Turn left, south, on 21st Street. Go to 38th or
40th Avenues and turn right. Go to 11th Street.
We are between 38th and 40th Avenues. Go to 11th Street and go towards
the Avenue you didn't turn onto. The directions are the same from this
point on.
SUBWAY - If you are coming via subway, the optimum way is to pick up the Q
train and take it to it's last stop on 21st Street in QueensBridge.
Coming up from the subway, you'll be on 21st Street. Walk 2 blocks to
40th Avenue. Then walk 3 blocks to 11th Street ( going towards Manhattan,
West ) and then right onto 11th. The Dorsai is on the left and can't be
missed due to the vertical exile sign.
If you are coming at a prearranged time, there will be no problem. If you
are not coming for a class or prearranged time, please call us voice or
leave e-mail which should be confirmed before coming. Our voice phone is
(718)392-3667.
