No, that's not what Microsoft thinks...it's what they chose to use as
ad copy!!! Marketing folks talk about "mindshare", which means
convincing people that something is a fact when it is not. A big part
of the Win95 marketing strategy was leaking details to the marketplace
steadily so as to sway people to *wait* for the release rather than go
to some competing OS.
Mindshare can kill you; look at DEC who are still trying to overcome
market fears that they are not "serious" about UNIX even thought their
machines are more "open" than Sun, who has convinced the world they
have an open system (as long as you run *their* UNIX...).
I won't mention what mindshare did to Amiga and Atari 8^( 8^( ...both
of whom had systems that in many ways surpassed the Mac (not to
mention Intel clones) back in 85-86.
