arg! MORE file compression probs

First of all thanks to all of you how have responded to my clueless 
questions.  Here's another:

I now have a copy of the BinSCII application, and used it to decode
Shrinkit.  But when I tried to launch Shrinkit, it said it couldn't find
a system tool it needed (didn't say which), and said I needed at least
system 5.0.3.   

I don't know what version I have, it didn't seem to be in "About the 
Finder"... How do I find out?  Also, the reason I'm doing all this
decoding in the first place is the get the latest system software for the 
GS, but I can't run Shrinkit to decode it.

So is my only option to get it on disk from someone else?
