Re: APPLE //e HELP!!!!!!
When you first turn an Apple II on you should get a system beep, which
indicates the bootstrap program checked the slots and didn't find any
problems. If you don't get a system beep, something's wrong. While booting,
you should get either Apple ][ (on and unenhaced IIe) or Apple //e (on an
enhanced IIe) at the top of the screen. Hitting control-reset will stop the
booting process and drop you into Applesoft BASIC and you should get the
BASIC ] prompt. If you think there's a problem you can initiate the IIe's
built-in self-test. Turn the computer on while holding down both Apple keys.
After a second or so let them go and the self-test will run. You may get a
couple of screen-fulls of garbage while the test is running. At the end any
errors found will be reported, or you'll get a System Okay or Kernel Okay
message.
