Since when? The BASIC language pre-dates Microsoft by many years. I
don't remember exactly when BASIC was first defined, but I'm pretty
sure it was the early 60's, if not the late 50's. Microsoft wasn't
around until the late 70's.
Microsoft does own the copyright on Applesoft BASIC, since they wrote
it, and on most PC and CP/M versions of BASIC.
