As has been pointed out several times Bill Gates, AKA Mr. MicroSoft,
wrote it. It all started when Bill Gates was hired to write the BASIC
for the Altair computer and the owner allowed him to walk with the
source. The owner of Altair was quoted some years ago, "I thought I
was starting the Altair Computer company. Little did I know I was
starting Microsoft."

As another said, Woz wrote integer BASIC.
