Most Apple II BBS software uses ANSI or PSE (Proterm Special Emulation). 
ProLine, GBBS, and Warp Six included.

Then don't use Prime. Any other software should run at any speed up to 
57.6k, limited by the Super Serial Card of course (but not if you have 
one of those plug-in modem speed enhancements).

I don't know of any multi-node software for the Apple II, but I hope

I know of no BBS specific software for IIgs. For comm software, try 
Spectrum v2.0+ or ANSITerm v2.xx.
