I first started accessing the internet in 1991 or 1992. At that time I was living in North York (the northern part of the Greater Toronto Area) and was accessing it through one of the pro- BBS' I believe. I only had a 2400 bps modem and even with using MNP5 compression to get throughput closer to 9600 bps, I often didn't have enough time (my account was limited to 30 or 60 minutes access time per day) to capture all the new messages in the Apple II newsgroups. This was probably due to also trying to grab the new posts in comp.binaries.apple2.
I would log on and tell it to start displaying all new messages and I would have my communications program's capture feature turned on so it all got saved to disk so I could read through it once I was offline.
