The ][e enhancement is, indeed, as simple as changing four chips--

* CPU (6502 --> 65C02)
* "Applesoft" ROM (including video driver firmware), 2 chips
* Video ROM

Personally, I suggest retaining your old Video and Monitor ROM's. 
Particularly the Video ROM.  I haven't done the enhancement, but I have
both an unenhanced ][e, and an enhanced ][e in addition to my IIgs.  All
of the newest programs will run on the Enhanced E, as will most older
software.  The biggest compatability problem with older software comes
from the new video ROM, specifically from the special Mousetext
characters.  If you use, for instance, the Pascal version of PFS:File,
Mousetext will make the program very hard to use.

So keep your old Video ROM handy in case you need to use it again.
