There is a program called 'gs2pkz', it converts the header from gzip to the more standard PKZip, from there UnZip or Angel can handle it from the ][e, or PMPUnzip from the ][gs. gz2pkz is a p8 program, so an Apple ][e/c can unpack gz compressed files, it just takes an extra step.
