As you noted, the clock speed is 3.6 MHz. Unfortunately, the IIgs has to
deal with a bank of very frequently used memory which is only rated at
1MHz (the IIe emulation memopry, but the GS uses it in native mode, too),
so it's constantly dialing down to 1MHz to access that memory. All in
all, it actually averages about 2.8MHz, which is what you'll hear most
people say about how fast the GS is. Also, unfortunately, the processor
on the motherboard is only rated at 4MHz, so you're going to be pushing
your luck trying to run it much faster. Your best bet at this point is
the get a ZipGSX card, and have it upgraded with the new 14MHz chips.
The ZipGSX replaces the processor, as well as adding a RAM cache to speed
it up even more. There is also the TransWarp GS accellerator, but I
haven't heard if anyone's been successful getting that one to run at
14MHz yet. Maybe someone else here in csa2 knows...
