Would the lines be Red and Yellow ones by chance?  Because I have a similar
problem with my GS, that and it comes up with a Fatal Error something or
other, this occurs when I leave the monitor on for extended periods, and I
have no idea why.  The machine has been checked by the tech. gurus at a
nearby computer store, (one of the few that still does Apple ][ stuff) and
the system was given a clean bill of health.
