apple rgb monitor help needed

i bought what i believe is an apple rgb monitor for $4 at a thrift store
today. it's the same color as a //e, *heavy* it also has a 15 pin cable, a
button that adjusts the display up and down automatically, and the right
front corner flips open to show some controls. i hooked it up to may laser
128's video port, but im not getting anything. when i hit the power
button, it makes what sounds like normal noises and i get some spurious
characters on the screen but for just a moment, and nothing else after
that. i dont see any kind of power light come on either. if i hit the
power switch again, and let it set and then turn it on again, it does the
same thing. what are the adjustments behind the hinged door? there's a
push button there, but it doesnt seem to do anything. is there any way to
hook up composite output to this display?
