more details follow here. i think my original description was eaten
somewhere along the line.

i wish i knew enough to identify exactly why the change was necessary.
i am puzzled myself.
my code uses a LDA #$C1
                STA $E1C029
to turn on super-hires mode. but as to why the second sight card was
not seeing the softswitch access, i do not know. by typing the same
thing directly into the monitor (ok, STA C029), second sight WOULD
display the expected sgr screen. changing the code to do the
LDA/STA twice in a row did however generate the desired results.
but i don't understand why!!!! note, i initially changed all
softswitch references from absolute to absolute long just in case
it had to do with bank 0 being shadowed to bank e0/e1 but that
change had no effect.

i can explain more just what my code does if it'll help to identify
what's going on.

for reference, i'm using a zipGS 9/64. my second sight appears to be
an 18MHz version.

also, i have seen so far that the second sight shadowing isn't
perfect. i see the odd anomoly, usually as a run of pixels that are
not correct.
