Well for some reason I can't turn on Appletalk in system 4.1 on my Mac 128
and I haven't tried with a 512 but I know every Mac from the Plus up can run
system 7 and use file sharing. I even ran Appleshare 3.0 on a Plus for a
while. You can pick up a Plus for as little as $75 these days and hard disks
are hovering around $.25/mb too.
