Most applications CAN print to a Deskjet! Beliave it, I have one and I 
can print from say Proterm, Appleworks classic. If you get the 
Deskwritter, then you are SOL since the deskwritter can only print to 
graphic interface programs (mainly GS/OS based with the proper drivers) 
where the deskject can do straight ascii text dump and thus virtually any 
program can be used. A few cannot be used such as Print shop GS. The 
reason for it is because there is no driver within this program. However 
you can purchase an emulation card for the printer that will emulate a 
panasonic printer for which there is a driver for in Print shop GS. I 
have heard that Bill H. was working on a driver for printshop GS and the 
HP deskjet 500. Hope this helps.
