All versions of AppleWorks will run on a IIc (or IIe, or IIgs). The
only catch is that more recent versions require more memory and/or a
hard drive.

AppleWorks 2.1 runs fine on 5.25" disks, and gives you 55k of desktop
space in a 128k machine.

AppleWorks 3.0 is a little more clumsy to use on 5.25" disks - more
disk swapping is needed. It gives you 40k of desktop space in a 128k
machine.

AppleWorks 4.x is even more clumsy - a lot of disk swapping is
needed. It gives you about 20k of desktop space in a 128k machine,
and many of its new features will not be available unless you add more
memory.

AppleWorks 5.0 will not run from 5.25" disks - a 3.5" disk or hard
drive is required. It also requires at least 256k of RAM, so it will
not run on a standard IIc.

Quality Computers are the current publishers. They have AppleWorks
4.3 and AppleWorks 5.0 available. I don't know if anyone still sells
AppleWorks 3.0, and I'm sure that 2.1 isn't available new any more.

Major new features added in each version:

3.0 added a spelling checker, better integration between the modules
(e.g. transferring data between the Spreadsheet and Database),
editable custom printers, more text import/export options in the
Database, etc. Several functions were added to the Spreadsheet.

4.0 added many Timeout utilities as standard features (including
UltraMacros player), plus major improvements to the Database
(import/export, formulas, etc.)

5.0 added an outliner, UltraMacros compiler (without documentation,
which limits its usefulness), and lots of minor improvements.
