To prove it is the "usual" behaviour for that machine, get into
Applesoft BASIC, type in the FLASH command, then display some text
(e.g. catalog a disk).  The flashing characters should behave in the
same way as described above.

You should also try testing the INVERSE command.  All characters
displayed while in INVERSE mode should be black on a white background.
