Hi,   I have had the card for quite a while.  The noise they are probably
talking about are slight buzzez and tweeks  that can be heard <sometimes>
while programs run.  The only way to make it better is to go into the 
SM cdev and make sure the idle sound is as low as it can go!
 
To record with microphone you need to make sure that micrphone is selected as 
input in the SM cdev and microphone is selected in the RECORD SETTINGS dialog
box under the INPUT pull-down menu.
