Re: Balloon 2.0 - Slow!

As others have noted, the main speed advantage of Balloon is
that when you use it you don't have to quit your current application
and run GS-ShrinkIt. But, beyond that, the main reason for the speed
difference is that Ballon is an NDA and it has to live INSIDE an
application. So, it might not be able to grab all the memory needed to
load a file completely into memory (like GS-ShrinkIt does), so, it plays
it safe, which can sometimes mean playing it slow.

ICE was developed on an unaccelerated system, and I never noticed
any "flickering" when adding/removing pixels. It could be that you've
got an extension slowing things down there.... As for the flickering
when saving a file... it's because the entire text of that window is
in a control, and when the text changes the entire control is
redrawn, which causes the flicker. I admit that this is annoying,
but I didn't have time to change it. Which brings me to your next
point...
>>Hey, EGO Systems, how about OPTIMIZED and FAST coding?
Well, we do try to make our stuff as OPTIMIZED and FAST as we can,
but we have these rotten publishing deadlines that get in the way
every two months. They leave us little time for "fine tuning." Sorry
about that...

We've heard of this bug from a couple of people, but we've NEVER been able
to reproduce it even once. If someone out there can send us step by step
instructions on reproducing it (we've been trying for months now!) we'll
fix it! (One thing I just thought of... does it only happen with SPECIFIC
archives? Or does it happen with EVERY archive? If it only happens with
a specific archive, send us that archive!)
