Yeah, a hardware/software combination.

Emphatically NOT! Take it from me, I work with backup devices every
day, 5 days a week. VCRs _suck_ the big green dangly bit when it comes
to trying to do a backup on them. It's just not safe, the heads/media
aren't made for it. If you lose a few nibbles out of your video, it
doesn't matter much ... you probably won't even notice. Have the same
happening to your backup, and your business goes broke.
