Re: Can I use my Apple II to get an Apple III booted?
Yes, ProDOS shares the same file system with SOS. But the boot block
for the /// is typically on Block $01, and the ][ is on Block $00.
It is not the same boot block. But if you need to create a disk, and
you have the files copied, and if it does not boot then take a look
at Block $01 with a block editor (Track $00 Sector $02 & $03 with a
"sector editor") Just read it from an older disk, if you didn't use
the copy disk function and start with an Apple /// Disk to begin with.
Sectors are 256 bytes, blocks are 512 bytes.
There are 16 sectors, or 8 blocks per track on a 5.25" disk. A block
editor will just address by block # solely, a sector editor will ask
you for track and sector. You can count by doing 8 per track as each
block consists of two sectors and will begin with the even numbered
sectors.
