Not always.  I know a few IIGS owners who rarely go into the desktop
except to use finder or some other heavily used desktop program.  It still
mostly text because one of the better comm programs (ProTERM) is text,
AppleWorks (very useful for many things) is text, programming is mostly
a text environment with either orca or gno, etc.  SS will have to have
these most used programs usable on the graphics screen before the IIGS
is truly desktop.

I would think truely slow on a 1024x768 no?  Just because you can draw
boxes and lines fast on the screen doesn't mean you can draw bitmapped
graphics fast, especially if you have lots of them.

I'm just going from what I've seen on the PC's where VGA is already
somewhat slow on an ISA bus so that VESA/VLB is preferred now.  The GS
is 1 mhz and I would think that will certainly limit lots of things.

If there was anything to be discovered about doing fast VGA graphics
using 1 mb of memory over a slow bus in a decent screen size (say
640x480 or 800x600), evidence should exist now, but only things I
could possibly name are some demos programs, though qualifying
Windows as a measure of speed is not too good, and Macs make it
just as hard with the slow OS.
