problem w/ comm program Z-link

Help..I have the comm program Z-link..heres the problem.

When I boot up the program w/ the modem hooked up and power to the modem
off everything is fine (except I can dial out)
When I boot up the program w/ power to the modem the program boots up
but and error occurs!
-I even booted up the program w/o power (everything fine) I then attempted
to add power to modem...the program surges and told me to reboot the
program....any ideas what I can do to use the program.

Just a Note..the programs comm.sys and the proterm3.1 demos woirked fine
and let me use modem and dial out.

Any ideas?

P.S. BTW I started the GEnie controvercey...heres what I found...
-I have cheap internet access...unix account (ftp,gopher, etc..)
soo genie had an initial flair, but once I got there and looked
around not a whole was available...unless you had the $$ to dish
out...not me (student)!
-Also most files can be found at ftp sites..all linked at grind
well except that genie has a GREAT Eamon collection :)

Bottom line...geinie is for those people w/ little or no internet access
that have the $$ to pay, or those who are serious users/programmers who
take advantage of the discussions (again $$)

my view is totally off the 8bit experoence...and a little 16 browsing :)
