At least IIgs BASIC was available in beta form (and it a seemed to
work reasonably well).

Ah.  So was it made available to developers in beta form, or were you
lucky enough to collect the documentation?

1988, huh?  GS/OS just coming out, which would have solved the major
problem (resource forks).  We subsequently have got everything needed
to implement AppleShare at the file system level (or it could be added
via a "desktop" type file).

Rather disappointing...
