Ah, you seem to mention the magic words: ^^^^^^^^^

We've said this a LOT of times around this newsgroup: Copy ][+ can
toast your directories! It should only do this to GS/OS's extended
files, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see it being the
source of your problems here. Things like 'Directory Sort' and the
like can really corrupt your volumes. Do NOT use them.

As to the $51 Bad Directory error, I'd try and isolate which
directory is causing it. Then, using a program that knows about and
can correctly handle GS/OS files (ProSEL-16 is preferred), do a volume
repair to find the bad files and fix them.

If you only have ProSEL-8's Cat Doctor (4.1 or 4.2 works great for
me) program, you can use it with a volume repair to fix things. Let's
assume that your bad directory is '/hd3/awstuff/toasted'. Copy out as
much as possible from the bad directory to a backup disk. Then, using
Cat Doctor, 'sort' the parent directory (/hd3/awstuff), putting the
entry 'toasted' at the end of the list. While still sorting, if you
hit 'oa-Delete' (or is it option? Poke around) on the last entry,
it'll be deleted. Write those changes to disk, and run a disk repair
program (ProSEL-16 or Mr. Fixit) to put everything back in shape.

COPY ][+ IS USEFUL, BUT IT CORRUPTS HDs. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
