To which I add...
It all depends on how you view the GUI...how the OS impacts on your use of
the machine. Some of us who have been working with computers for a long
time and who are quite comfortable communicating with the machines through
the keyboard find the GUI to be a kind of 'take it or leave it' sort of
thing. Add to that the fact that the GUI causes GS software to suffer
from a form of Micro$oft Bloat, and a speed hit as well...
That said, I do think it is nice to have a 16-bit OS. In addition, it is
possible that the original poster was looking at Mousedesk rather than
GS/OS System. That was a VERY poor imitation of the Mac. Personally, I'd
rather have a 16-bit version of BASIC.SYSTEM to allow me to take advantage
of some of the system-level advantages of GS/OS from the traditional
Applesoft command-line environment (for instance, the ability to read and
write disks of various formats using the FST's...).
