If you have an original Disk II, all the chips should be socketed, not
soldered in. If this is the case, youshould be able to replace all the
chips for under $5.00. It's a fairly cheap way to find out if the drive
needs to be chucked.
P.S. primary culprit is probably the ULN 2003 chip but could also be a
74LS125. Good luck.
