heh - exactly - in fact, that's what I use my IIc FOR.. I work various
places in on of my jobs, and I take the IIc with me.  Set it up, pop on a
disk, and start typing.  I find I actually like AppleWriter better than
AppleWorks, though.. I have zero need for a database or spreadsheet while
I'm writing.

As ofr hard to read.. well.. yeah.  you have to have an external light
source, and it has to be fairly bright.. and in the right position (or you
get massive reflections off the screen, or cant' see the text at all..) 
as for the display going to the edge of the screen.. well, I've not
noticed a problem there.. and I hate the way the IIGS screen has an inch
of "wasted space" all around the active display area.
