It does surprise me thet the c-Itoh driver works.  It was my understanding
that Toshiba was the manufacturer of the Imagewriter II printer.  I
remember this because when Toshiba got in trouble for selling technology
to the Russians for manufacturing submarine propellers, one result of the
sanctions was that Imagewriter II printer prices remained sky high while
other printer prices were dropping like lead.  So...I would try different
Toshiba drivers and see what happens.  I will have to experiment myself. 
Time to make a cable.
