Star Trek Episode Guides Version 2.1c Release Information
====================================================
Announcing the release of the following HyperCard IIGS Ver 1.1
stacks, which should appear on comp.binaries.apple2 soon -
Star Trek : The Next Generation Episode Guide Version 2.1c
(STTNG) Parts 0 - 27
Star Trek : The Original Series Episode Guide Version 2.1c
(STTOS) Parts 0 - 12
Star Trek : Deep Space Nine Episode Guide Version 2.1c
(STDS9) Parts 0 - 21
All stacks have been GSShrinked, GSCII'ed, then posted to
comp.binaries.apple2 .
All stacks require HyperCard IIGS Version 1.1 to run properly and also
need installation on a hard drive and at least 2.0 megs of RAM. An
accelerator is recommended but not (overly) necessary (but very nice.
I use a ZIP 9MHz/32K cache and the speed is quite acceptable).
Version 1.0 of HC GS will not work properly .
STTNG takes up 1750K of hard drive space when unshrunk.
STTOS takes up 825K of hard drive space when unshrunk .
STDS9 takes up 1290K of hard drive space when unshrunk .
All three stacks should be installed into the same folder/subdirectory
since they recognise each other and you are able to swap between the three
easy with all features enabled.
SPECIAL FEATURES
==================
The stacks will always remember which show you were looking at last
viewing and will open the stack to that show on next viewing.
A new "splash" picture is now displayed whenver you open the stack,
which lists some credits and plays the Introduction sound.
Clicking on the Communicator icon will again play the Introduction
sound and reshow the "splash" screen. Also two buttons will appear.
Clicking the "Credits" button will display the list of credits for
the stack. Clicking the "Show XXXX Graphic" will take you to a card
and display the XXXX graphic.
Various actions have sounds attached to them. You'll be given warnings
(in the Enterprises computer voice) for any posibly dangerous actions
where you might delete or alter important information, or told that the
computer is working when you've asked it to do a lengthy action. The
sounds can be turned off by highlighting the "Sounds On" menu item
under the "ST - XXX" menu, and turned on again by re-highlighting.
You can get Character Information on The respective characters
by highlighting the "Character Information" menu item under the
"ST - XXX" menu, and when at that card, can print the currently displayed
Characters information.
There is now an "Episode Notes" field that holds information about the
actors in the show, plot lines altered or dropped, mistakes and inside
jokes, and opinions (usually by David R. Landis ). There are also references
to other episodes of Star Trek that are related. These are all linked by
hypertext links. Simply click on any number in [ ] brackets, eg like the
[#123] in the following reference "Klingons in My Dryer" [#123], and the
stack will take you to that show's card. A button labelled "Old Links"
will show you a list of all the shows you have accessed using these
hypertext links. These links operate between all three Star Trek
stacks as well, allowing you to follow references back to their origin.
You can now give a "Rating" to the shows by clicking on the popup menu at
the lower left corner of the screen. Ratings between one star (*) and five
stars (* * * * *) are allowed. You can also wipe any Rating score can be
done by accepting the "none" rating in the popup menu.
You can "Mark" shows using the Mark Shows window. Once a group of shows are
marked, you can print out various Reports for these shows. For example, you
could mark all the shows which feature Worf to find out if the same set of
authors have been writing for him. You can view only the marked shows by
using the "Marked" arrows on the screen. You can also go directly to any
marked show by clicking on the title in the list.
You can generate "Reports" in three styles (Full, Short, and One Line) for
all the shows, the marked shows, or just the one you are looking at. These
reports can be sent to your printer or saved in a text file (flat ASCII)
which should print out OK for any printer connected.
You can store information on your video tape collections of Star Trek
episodes. You can then use the stack to find which tape a specific episode
is on, so you need not physically search the tapes to find it. This
information can be exported to a file, then imported into newer versions
of this stack.
You can add shows to the stack. Use the "New Card" menu item, or type
Apple-N. The new cards will always be placed at the end of the stack.
When you enter the name of the episode, that name will be updated in
the title lists so you can view it with the "Go To" button. Make sure
you spell the title of the show correctly, otherwise updating to the
next version of the stack may have some problems.
The "Help Mode" menu item under the "ST - XXX" menu causes small windows
to pop up next to objects when you place the cursor on them explaining
their function and actions .
You can use the "Find" command to find any information in the stack,
then by holding down the Option key and clicking on the "Find" button,
you can find the same string again.
The "Go To" button brings up an alphabetic list of all the episodes. You
can also view the lists in seasonal order by pressing one of the
"season #" buttons (1 to 7), or Movies button for the list of Movies.
Clicking on an episodes name will take you to that show.
Hope everyone enjoys the stacks as much as I like them as they've
taken a while to put together and get working.
All the best Trekkers.
Live long and Prosper
