Mac Drive on Apple II

For what it's worth...

I have tried what must be an 800k Mac Plus drive on my IIgs.  Unfortunately,
it does NOT work.  The drive lights when accessed, but then it goes off
very quickly and nothing seems to happen.
The same drive works fine on the back of a Mac SE.
