0.25k program contest!
Hi all!
Over on rec.games.programmer, someone held a contest: the goal was
to write the best game you could, with two conditions:
1. the game must run on a 386 MS-DOS computer with VGA.
2. the total size (code+data) must not exceed 256 bytes.
The 256-byte restriction was inspired by the fact that Steve Wozniak's
Apple I Monitor was this small.
You can find more information and a .zip file of all programs that were
entered at http://cs-www.bu.edu/staff/TA/biddle/www/256games.html. Some
are quite good!
How about running a similar contest for the Apple II? Even though Nibble's
one-liners and Beagle Bros' two-liners contests are no more, the art
of compact 6502 programming lives on.
Here are the guidelines I propose:
-- Contest not restricted to games: demos, utilities, etc. welcome
-- Must run on an enhanced, 128k Apple //e.
-- May call [Pro]DOS, Applesoft or Monitor routines.
-- Must come with source code in text format.
-- 256 bytes maximum object code size.
Tell me what you think.
