Doesn't the ball bearing get worn out that way?  Alcohol pretty much
disintegrates any lubricant on the stepper.  I have kept disk II's running
in the past by using WD-40 and a lubricant on the stepper plate?  Have I
been doing this wrong for the past 10 years?
