The AI InnerDrive 40 used a IBM XT compatible IDE drive (eg, Western Digital
WD2048 or WD2048-X) (8 bit controller). The AE Vulcan 40 used an IBM AT
compatible IDE drive (eg, WD2048-A) (16 bit controller). The -X and -A
drives are not interchangeable, although the -A drives might have a jumper
to make them -X compatible (? anyone know for sure).
Neither drive is SCSI, although I imagine you could put a SCSI drive and
cable in and get a SCSI controller. I'm pretty sure others have done
this and I've been tempted. My AI InnerDrive is struggling on its last
legs, and my AE Vulcan is down for the count (controller?). At least
their power supplies are still working :)
