Mr. Fixit bad block lockout problem

Background: I am running ProSel-8 on an enhanced IIe, with an 8mhz Zip Chip,
and a Rev. C RamFast card running a Maxtor SCSI hard drive. When I try to
run a back block lockout test on one of the partitions, it just sits there
until I power down and reboot. On the other partitions, there is a setup
time that varies somewhat before it begins to count through the blocks as
it checks them. The problem partition never gets to the counting stage.
I can access the files on the problem partition normally, but it is very
fragmented and it is the partition most likely to get bits blasted out of
its directories.

Should I copy the files to another partition, reformat it, and copy the files
back? Since I use ProSel-8 Backup, which backs up block by block, I'm afraid
that if I restore from my backup, it will just reproduce the problems that
already exist.
