: but what the heck, it actually worked!
: I didn't try sending a FAX yet, but receive worked fine.
: I received two FAXes. One 3 page from NEC's Fast FAX, and a 7 page one from
: Apple's FAX service. I was able to print and view the FAXes. They

I'll cut here. I had a similar problem with my LWriter, but when I asked
Vitesse they said everything that was either viewed or printed first had
to be scaled to the screen resolution. No way around that as of now, but
they're working on it.
: The FAX was at 200 DPI, and when

: I'd like to hear from other FAXination users that have a printer with a

See above.
: The program did just randomly crash into the monitor when I enabled the

: receive it fine.
: I'll be trying the send feature soon, but it sounds like folks here have had
: success with that already.
Vitesse tells me it really depends on the modem. There are some users who
have gotten their modem to receive and send, others who can't even init
the darn thing. You're one of the "lucky".
: There is still work to do, but we can send and receive FAXes now!
Again, see above.
I'll use this opportunity to add a sniplet of my own. Yes, there
seems to be a LOT of work to do. Generally, I sit back and read this
conference, helping when I can. But I have to butt in.
Vitesse has gotten SOME modems to initialize SOME of the time.
(They'll throw a pitch bout this if you ask, some weird angle.) They
also, because of this, can't guarantee that modems WILL send and receive.
Viewing is horrible, and printing needs to be improved, IMHO. But
what do I know? I've had the 104 version for a couple of days, and
haven't gotten ANY fax-back service to work correctly with my modem. A
lot of times I'll get that annoying "Transmission failed due to an
unrecoverable error" and have to start over. I'll look for the FAX I just
received, and, what? It's not there? AHHHHH!!
Another thing, file encryption really _should_ be optimized, so
that you're not waiting three to five minutes PER PAGE. Ugh.
Okay.
