Well, I'm at home again with the Viper 150 and my RamFAST card.
It seems that setting the Viper to provide termination power is
what did the trick (mostly).
I can back up all the partitions on my DEC RZ23 to the Viper and
now when I enter the SCSI utilities, I see the partition list for the
tape!
I'm now testing the RESTORE function by having backed up an otherwise
unused partition and restoring it to a second scratch partition that's
the exact same size.
One little trick I've learned is that before I attempt any operations
with the tape drive, I have to pull the "latch handle" back a little
and then let it go. That way, the tape drive thinks that the tape
has been ejected and re-inserted. If I don't do this, tape drive
operation becomes flaky for the next operation.
The restore just finished, but I guess it's not a good idea to
restore one volume to a different one, despite the fact that their
sizes are identical. I ended up with two partitions the same name.
Eeek!
OK. got it sorted out now. Whew!
It looks like it works on the RamFAST. Now if I could just get it
to work on my Amiga 500 and SupraDrive 500XP...
Thanks for all the feedback!
