First of all, you DON'T need a power CORD, you need a power SUPPLY. The
//c uses an external power brick...I guess the original idea was that if
you were running off of batteries, why carry the extra weight of the power
supply. Of course, the //c is too much of a power hog to logically use
battery power, so it just ended up another nuisance for that machine.
Second, once you get the thing powered up, you will have Applesoft BASIC
in ROM. The //c is very similar, from a software standpoint, to an
enhanced ][e. It's got the Mousetext characters, and the video display
driver is a little different from that used on the ][e, but it is very
similar.
When first introduced, the //c was supposed to be the portable version of
the ][e...Apple's answer to the Kaypro, I guess. But the flat panel
display was delayed (and once released, turned out not to be very good),
and the computer never really made it as a portable.
