1) The Control Panel has no effect on ProTERM as PT does not use firmware
but goes direct to the hardware.
2) I'll be you have either a) a slow system (no accelerator) and a
burdensom init, or b) too many inits.
Try booting into P8 directly (skip GS/OS boot by holding the 8 key at boot
time for sys 6.01). If your problem disappears then you have some system
extension using interupts more then ProTERM can keep up with serial
data. The find the init/CDEV/NDA/CDA/etc. that is causing it and disable it.
