Which version of AppleWorks GS is your friend using?  If it is
AppleWorks GS 1.0 or 1.0v2, it isn't fully compatible with System 6
and is very buggy.  I'm using AppleWorks GS 1.1 with System 6.0.1 and
it works fine.

How much memory is in the system, and if the RAM disk is enabled, how
big is it?  AppleWorks GS (especially version 1.0 and 1.0v2) is very
crash-prone in low memory situations.
