IN>The operating system it shipped with was SOS -- the Sophisticated

IN>There was some really nice business software for that machine.
IN>Suffice it to say, that without the /// and it's unique operating
IN>system, there would be no ProDOS, and the Mac's operating system would
IN>look very different -- as they are both outgrowths of SOS and Apple's

SOS - Sarah's Operating System, named after one of the developer's

IN>Stress "in spite of". The apple II carried the Mac for years -- that's

IN>enough yet, but the Apple IIe was starting to lose ground to the PCs.
IN>Apple had to prop up that end until reinforcements arrived.
Very true, but Apple wouldn't admit it. Some in Apple admitted that the
//gs was built "in case" the Macs flopped, while others denied it
vehemently. Just depends on which ear you bent...Didja hear about all
the different secret names the //gs project was given? Pretty amusing.
