Try this:  remove the 5.25 drive from the GS and connect it to the //c
(if you have an external drive on the //c, remove it).  Try writing
to a floppy disk when in the //c.  If you still are getting write-
protect errors, then the drive is faulty--probably the switch which
detects for write protection is broken.
