A duodisk is a unit with 2 5.25" drives.  It's very unlikely
that you could manage to cram a 5.25" disk into a 3.5" drive.
(It sure wouldn't be good for the disk.)

Also, even versions 1.x of AppleWorks used both sides of the 
disk.  Is that an original disk, or a copy that someone made 
using both sides of a disk that was labled as being single
sided?
