PC, Mac and Apple II

I have read in this newsgroup that some GS users/programmers are leaving
the Apple II world. I can understand how it feel. Well, just wish them good
luck and have a nice day in a new environment.

I am one that returned from the PC world. I won't say PC sucks, because PC
is such an excellent machine for arcade games, CD ROM, commercial software.
I am now using a PC full time with OS/2 Warp, and the more I used my PC,
the more I love my GS, so now I am back and hopefully will continue to write
some new software for the GS.

If you like a PC or a Mac, just go for it. It might be what you will like, and
it might not. I don't like a PC after using it - there are a lot of minor but
irritating things - like every software likes to change your config.sys file
and it is difficult to keep track of it, like it is near impossible to cleanly
uninstall a software, etc etc. I won't like a Mac for obvious reason - I won't
get anything from a company that disappointed me for so long. I am no longer
an Apple fan, just an Apple II fan, that's different.

Yes, GS is not as fun anymore. There is only a new FAX software, Wolf3d, and
2 video cards on the horizon. But it is still easy to use. It is still more
"plug and play" than PC. It still works the way I want it to be. It still have
better sounds than the standard SoundBlaster 16.

True, you might be thinking of wasting your money by buying new hardware for
your GS. I would think otherwise. PC price is dropping everyday. In Singapore,
it is about $100-$150 per month ($1.5=US$1). If I get a SecondSight/TurboRez,
I would probably enjoy it for a few months trying to write software for it and
just feel great of making my GS looks better. These few months of enjoyment
will save you a few hundreds afterall even if you decided to go to PC afterall.

I will still buy a PC somedays, definitely. I will still enjoy my GS and really,
IMHO, Apple II is forever.
