Re: IW-II Printhead.
Eureka! I found the problem with the IW-II printhead. I pulled the
printhead from my personal IW-II for comparison and the problem was
immediately obvious. There's a little rectangular plate measuring
about 4mm x 8mm that serves as a guide to hold the 9 pins in
alignment. This plate was missing on the school's printhead. On a
hunch I picked up the printer and shook it real hard and was rewarded
with a faint rattling deep inside the body of the printer. After a
buncg of vigorous shaking and other gyrations a little plastic
rectangle fell out of the printer, bounced off my desk, off my leg,
and into the trash can. Unfortunately the trash can was not only full of
trash (hince the name) but also dozens of little black plastic
rectangles from a bunch of 5.25" disks I'd been notching. Ack! After
a LOT of weeding through the trash I found the little bugger! After
a couple of attempts I managed to get the guide back on over the
pins and cemented in place with two coats of Ambroid. The cemment
should be fully cured by this evening, so I'll know in a few hours
if the repair worked.
