I have a rom 1 IIgs with a flashcard (128mb) installed in lieu of a hard drive. The flashcard sits in slot 7. I have a 1.4mb 3.5 drive installed in slot 2. I have a GSauce card (4 mb of memory) installed in the memory slot. I was installing some software on the flashcard and apparently did something wrong. Now it won't go to the finder, it says it can't find start.gs.os, and says the error code is 00046. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
It really depends upon how badly you've messed things up. ;-)The error you've mentioned indicates that the file Start.GS.OS can't be found. This file should be present in the System folder on your boot drive. I would first suggest replacing this file from the System installation disks. If you have System 6.0.1 installed, then the Start.GS.OS file can be found on the disk labeled System Disk (disk 2).
If more than just this file was removed/damaged, a complete re-install of the System software may be required. Since you mentioned you are using a CFFA (or similar), I find the easiest and quickest way of installing the system software is to use Ciderpress to create a new ProDos disk image, mount the image in your favourite IIgs emulator, install the System software (and any other apps you want) onto the image using the emulator, and then use Ciderpress to transfer everything across to the CF card when your happy. Doing this under emulation on a modern PC is *much* fast that installing from floppies on the real machine.
Hope this helps. Cheers, Mike
